A macroscale molecular communication system was proposed for IoT-based pipeline inspection and monitoring networks, addressing the challenge of unreliable wireless links in buried pipeline environments where conventional signals suffer heavy attenuation and noise. The work developed a mathematical model alongside a preliminary experimental testbed, transmitting and reconstructing binary sequences using a volatile organic compound (VOC) as the information signal. The impact of key system parameters including airflow carrier velocity, released VOC velocity, emission duration, and bit duration , was examined, showing their significant influence on the received molecular signal and the need for careful configuration.
